The Beacon Living Lab provides the infrastructure to generate actionable open data with large scale public iBeacon (Apple) and Eddystone (Google) enabled sense network installations and developer friendly platforms in order to accelerate emerging internet of things (IoT) innovations for smart city and smart citizen solutions thus stimulating the creation of new projects (start-ups ?) and next generation IoT applications making a rapid impact on the local economy.
With the City of Caldas da Rainha we created a large, public and open IoT testing ground starting with the Beacon Rota Bordaliana to push the development of a rapidly growing IoT economy across all public and private verticals.
We extended the Living Lab throughout the city centre and it continues to grow rapidly as it generates new actionable open data and the apps and startups that benefit.
Our goal is to give the city and the citizens a way to interact in new and meaningful ways, especially people with physical disabilities. We like to create interactivity, give people choices and create new opportunities for bottom up, organic citizen participation.
